Education for Seniors
One concern people have about growing old is the idea of no longer progressing, of just staying still while the rest of the world goes on by. However, even those in assisted living or other long-term care do not have to stop learning or going out. For instance, you can take your parents out to dinner, or golf, or a movie once in awhile when they are up to it. You can make sure they have all or at least some of the books they like to read with them when they move into their new residence. If they are still mentally sound enough, get them new books to read as well.
There are even education courses that seniors can take to keep their minds sharp and keep contact with the outside world. An article from suite101.com has some good info on such courses (I can't reproduce it here because they want written permission to do so).
