Interior Design in Assisted Living

When evaluating an assisted living facility, it is important to take note of the interior design.  I came across some ideas on what to look for from Seniors for Living.  Many assisted living places are designed like a cozy house or apartment, which is good, because it can help the residents feel more at home, but there are also other things that must be considered when furnishing a senior home.  A good assisted living residence must be easy for a senior to navigate and get around in.  A thick rug may make it difficult for a person with a wheelchair.  Fancy colors and patterns everywhere may confuse and disorient a person with dementia or with visual impairments.  Also, handrails should have enough color contrast with the walls that make them easy to see.
